Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (approx. 50g)
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) pure Canadian maple syrup
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  2. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup. Mix on medium speed until the batter is smooth and well-combined.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir this into the wet ingredients until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes to ensure the cookies maintain their shape.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Form 1-inch balls using a cookie scoop and place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 7–9 minutes. Remove when edges are set and barely golden; centers should look slightly underdone.
  8. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
