Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Provolone cheese
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp coarse sea salt
- 1/2 cup high-quality mayonnaise
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 8 slices thick-cut sourdough bread
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
- 8 slices provolone cheese
Instructions:
- In a medium mixing bowl, vigorously whisk together the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, shredded provolone, heavy cream, and sea salt until the mixture is uniform and spreadable.
- In a separate small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, garlic powder, and onion powder to create the garlic-mayo crust spread.
- Lay out the sourdough slices and spread the garlic-mayonnaise mixture generously on one side of every slice (the exterior side).
- Flip the slices over. On the interior side of 4 slices, spread the cream cheese 'lava' mixture evenly. Layer each with 1 slice of cheddar and 1 slice of provolone. Top with the remaining sourdough slices, mayo-side facing out.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Place sandwiches in the pan and grill for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is a deep mahogany gold and the center is fully melted.
