Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (160ml) pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup (50g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) fine sea salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat; melt and whisk constantly until the butter foams and turns golden brown with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the browned butter, maple syrup, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is glossy and cohesive.
- Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt directly into the wet mixture. Using a spatula, fold the ingredients together just until no streaks of flour remain. Fold in the chocolate chips last.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 11–13 minutes until edges are mahogany and centers are slightly soft. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring.
