Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (160ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup (50g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) fine sea salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat; melt and whisk constantly until the butter foams and turns golden brown with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the browned butter, maple syrup, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is glossy and cohesive.
  3. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt directly into the wet mixture. Using a spatula, fold the ingredients together just until no streaks of flour remain. Fold in the chocolate chips last.
  4. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 11–13 minutes until edges are mahogany and centers are slightly soft. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring.
