Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (105°F–115°F)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted salted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm water (110°F), honey, and 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter. Whisk in the instant yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the egg and fine sea salt to the yeast mixture. Using the dough hook on low speed, gradually add 3 cups of flour.
  3. Continue mixing, adding the remaining flour 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough is slightly tacky but pulls away from the sides of the bowl. This uses the remaining 1 cup of flour.
  4. Allow the dough to rest in the bowl for 10 minutes to allow the flour to fully hydrate and the gluten to relax.
  5. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape into smooth balls. Place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  6. Cover and let the rolls rise in a warm spot for 15 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Bake for 20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and immediately brush with 2 tablespoons of melted salted butter and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.
